21st Century Learning and Readiness

Collaboration and communication
  • Students sat in groups to collaborate on math problems personalized to their interests, hobbies, future aspirations, experiences, and everyday lives.
  • Students engaged in turn and talks about their approaches, results, and reasonings.
Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Evaluated and compared functions using descriptions, equations, tables, and graphs.
  • Determined and interpreted the rate of change and initial value of a function.
  • Found the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres
  • Collected data, and constructed two-way tables and scatter plots
  • Interpreted associations, clusters, and outliers in scatter plots.
Creativity and innovation
  • Students conducted their own research about math applications in real-life and the real-world not already given in their problems and journal about their findings, thoughts, feelings, and conclusions.
Technology, digital, and media literacy
  • Students used calculators to access 8th grade math content.
  • Students used digital apps to help them graph and interpret functions and scatter plots, and find the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
  • Students used search engines to conduct their research, tried different search keywords, and multiple result links.
Initiative and productivity
  • Students took surveys to rate their change in participation and attitude in math.
  • Participation was based on how often students raised their hands to volunteer their answers and how often they stayed on task on topic.
