What inspired this work?
The inspiration behind this study was a first hand problem I was having in classroom. My students were not engaging in high quality academic discourse. My students were either not speaking enough in general or the content of their discussions were not reflecting their best ideas, questions and needs. Witnessing the doors that being bilingual opened for me, I became inspired to share this gift with my students. I believe that embracing and fostering bilingualism not only enhances communication skills but also promotes cultural understanding and empathy. As an educator in a dual- immersion school it was really important that I facilitate student discussions in English and Spanish!
