What Is TPACK?

"At the heart of the TPACK framework, is the complex interplay of three primary forms of knowledge: Content (CK), Pedagogy (PK), and Technology (TK). The TPACK approach goes beyond seeing these three knowledge bases in isolation. The TPACK framework goes further by emphasizing the kinds of knowledge that lie at the intersections between three primary forms: Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Technological Content Knowledge (TCK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)."
The Seven Components of TPACK 
  • Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) – Learning for All teachers are expected to be committed to organization, clear lesson planning, presenting clear objectives, both to students and administration, and a deep commitment to the process that differentiation encompasses. There is no easy fix. Teachers must work on their methods in order to improve and succeed. 
  • Technology Knowledge (TK) – Learning for All Differentiation requires knowledge of collaborative apps, such as Google Docs. Appropriate application means knowing which technological tool will work to approach different levels of learning. Technology is a tool, not a magical fix all. A hammer doesn't work if you don't know what to do with it. 
  • Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) – Learning for All units find multiple ways to approach the subject matter in order to enhance the learner's understanding of the curriculum. Adapting that curriculum, along with the lessons and assessments with in, to the different type of learning styles will create a successful learning environment.
  • Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) – It is imperative that the technology incorporated is appropriate for the content matter and the learning styles. If assessments consist of only writing papers, taking tests, or making a Powerpoint, you are not approaching the Learning for All method correctly. Consider Padlet for entry and exit passes. Consider Comic Strip makes for comprehension reviews. Always align the technology with the appropriate objective of what you are trying to accomplish when using it. 
  • Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK) – Allowing students to use an app like Audible to listen to a book, as opposed to reading a book, will enhance the comprehension for a auditory learner. Adjustments like this will allow teachers to gain the full benefits of the Learning for All methods. Understanding that all oral presentations don't need to include a Powerpoint, will help to include students who find Powerpoint overwhelming or unhelpful.
  • Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) – Learning for All is a 21st century methodology of Differentiated Instruction that has the potential to hit all the major aspects that TPACK tries to address in its standards. Understanding the content inside and out, the willingness to experiment and evolve, will create a strong TPACK curriculum.
