Where did my thinking begin?
It is my passion to teach children through traditional means of education but also to teach our children foundational technology skills. The majority of my career has been with elementary students. For the past 11 years, I have been a second grade teacher. In the time span of being a second grade teacher, I have realized the technology skills that seven and eight year olds have acquired has evolved over the years. The young learners brains have always been around technology. Technology skills are easier for the majority of the students. Younger elementary students are capable of learning through technology. I have always been an advocate for younger students to use technology.
When the pandemic hit the world and all of our teaching went to online format, I had to adapt to the new world of education. I took online classes on many different educational platforms. The one that was recommended for my age group to implement synchronous and asynchronous work was Seesaw. After taking lessons online through Seesaw and the district; I felt confident implementing my new acquired skills to my students. However, I kept hearing, "distant learning is not going to work especially young students." "Kids can't learn on the computer without being in-person." This was when I made the decision that I wanted to research the effect of teaching through the educational website Seesaw and how transferred knowledge to the end of the year STAR assessment for foundational reading scores.
