Support and Next StepsThe results of this project have me excited about how I can take what I have learned and mold it into amazing opportunities for my students to be prepared for the lives ahead of them, but perhaps more importantly they have set me on the path to helping other teachers leverage my learning to benefit their own students. The data definitely shows that projects that allow students to be Connected, Effective and Agentic help them to develop agency skills (and demonstrate content competency) more effectively than prescribed lessons, but what the data doesn’t show is the prohibitive amount of work it takes to make a single great project (to say nothing of a consistent repertoire). As such, I have begun work on creating an application that will more easily connect teachers with authentic projects in their communities. Expect to hear more as it nears completion!
I would like to wholeheartedly thank NapaLearns for all they have done for the educational community of Napa County and especially for the impact they have had upon my own journey as a teacher and a student. Their work in helping to establish New Technology High School led to my ability to enjoy innovative teaching practices as a student there, which in turn kindled my interest in a future in education. Their work in helping connect me with possible project partners in the community prior to my own project helped my students learn immensely, and helped to instigate the journey I started in the Touro Innovative Learning program and am continuing now. The fact that they also helped to support me financially through the Innovative Learning program shows their commitment to the teachers of the Napa community and their willingness to do what’s necessary to support the innovation of the future. For all of this and more, they have my resounding gratitude.
