The intent of my research was to discover effective strategies that could impact language skills for students so that the achievement gap was reduced in English Language Arts.

Some of the research utilized was based on:
  • brain research focused on multi-sensory learning and memory,
  • language acquisition: Second Language and Academic Language Acquisition,
  • lesson designs that promote multi-sensory learning: Universal Design for Learning, Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol, Arts and Engineering Education, and Inquiry Based Learning.

Ultimately, I took ideas from each of the areas to create lessons to use with my students. The resources that were successful with my students is what I am sharing here. To find lessons and tutorial videos that I and other educators have created, check out the Lessons and How-To's Links. If you head over to the References Link you can find more websites to inspire art and engineering use in your classroom, twitter and blog handles to follow and links to books and articles about creativity, multi-sensory learning, TPACK and 21st Century skills in the classroom. The Assessment Link will inform you about the language rubrics and how they fit into this research.
