Year after year, I as a teacher struggled to find ways to engage my students. As the years passed I realized that it was mostly on them, we as teachers just had to pave the way for them to understand how to engage in their own learning. Watching my students take lead on certain parts of their education, had me thinking of ways to lead them to conquer their own issues with engagement.
In an effort to engage students in continuation school, 19 students were selected to participate in a study to compare their interest in coursework compared to previous research on the topic of dropout indicators. Results from the survey were consistent with indicators in previous research. Students were also offered a psychological assessment developed by Gallup called CliftonStrengths. This tool was used to determine if strengths awareness increased engagement or not. Results were inconclusive. |
