Design Process
My learners during my Mindset research were a select group of students during Summer Academy at Napa High School. These students elected to take a summer "jump start" class that is intended to connect them to high school, be successful in Math, and investigate college choices. For my Capstone, I developed and enhanced lessons for my PreCalculus classes. I also brought several of the ideas from the course into my AP Computer Science Principles classes such as having students create a Weebly page, where they posted their assignments, creating "artifacts" using tech tools. The artifact creation is part of the AP CSP course requirement and so, this course was very timely for me to have experimented with many of the digital tools so that I could assist with audio and video recording and creating infographics.

Logo Creation
Logo design was certainly a process. I started with Google drawing and created some images that I wanted to use. It was a very busy logo. I then worked on Logomakr and settled on just one eye. I liked the eye that I chose because the eyelashes seem to indicate enlightenment, and the eyeball evokes the idea of thinking. I tried to have the Visual Learning letters arch over like an eyebrow, from a suggestion from a Cohort 11 member but the program I used did not allow that. On to color! I wanted to bring in yellow, as it is a happy and friendly color, Baggio calls it "sunny", but yellow lettering was awful, but the circle in the background gives it a brighter look. And to learn is to make ourselves brighter! Baggio states that yellow is an attention getting color, like red, but should not be overused as it can cause cognitive overload. So, I minimized the yellow. I chose blue, like so many other famous logos, but I wanted blue because it is a calming color and the lighter blue color is like the sky. I did present several logo ideas to Cohort 11, and received great feedback, which I did incorporate, thank you! I started with a circle because that is the most pleasing shape, to me but also because our Trigonometry unit is based on learning the unit circle and its values. |
