Research into language acquisition using tech tools and music and the reasons why I was interested in that...

I began my research because I wanted to engage and motivate my students more in the classroom. Previously when I had used songs or tech tools as part of my lesson, I noticed that they sparked interest. First I introduced Quizlet into my classroom with a few other apps to see if it would attract interest from my students. Please click on the title of my research paper, A Comparison of the Effectiveness of the Quizlet Application versus Traditional Teaching Methods in the Learning of New Foreign Language Vocabulary to read it. Initially I compared learning using solely traditional teaching methods with traditional methods and tech tools. Please look at my research presentation at the bottom of this page to see what I found out in my research. Once I had implemented Quizlet in my classroom, I introduced more and more apps together with music too to aid vocabulary learning.

Abstract:
This study looked at the use of Quizlet in foreign language learning and whether it helps students retain vocabulary more readily than other methods. Quizlet is an online application which helps students learn vocabulary in a foreign language. This study was carried out because learning a foreign language can be difficult and educators are looking for new teaching methodologies to enhance their students’ learning experiences and motivate them. This research was carried out using one French 1 class and both quantitative and qualitative data was collected. The data collected compared students’ test results when learning new vocabulary using traditional teaching methods and when learning new vocabulary using both traditional methods and the Quizlet application. The results of this study were inconclusive as they did not clearly show that one method was better than the other. Students also completed a survey indicating their feelings and preferences about Quizlet. Students gave much positive feedback.
