“All of life is education and everybody is a teacher and everybody is forever a pupil.”
- Abraham Maslow Teachers face the daily task of having to balance the different learning needs of every student. I have many essential tasks as a special educator: balancing teaching during distance learning, being legally compliant with the IEP, attempting to keep up with a sort of pacing calendar, adhering to Common Core standards, accommodating special learning needs, helping my students stay well and happy, and hopefully seeing growth in academic abilities.
Further, thanks to this incredible program at Touro, I am learning what it really means to teach by using instructional design models, 21st century learning techniques, understanding and incorporating trans literacy practices, and utilizing appropriate digital tools. This is really the whole premise for my research. I often operate on experience and instinct but one needs to listen very carefully to what students say and how they are feeling. Understanding how to balance ALL these things is essential to being an exceptional 21st century educator. Please click on Common Core, 21st Century Skills, and TPACK to learn more. |
