Taking into consideration my classroom for my design processMy classroom is made up of 26 third grade students in a diverse elementary school. The elementary school contains grades kindergarten - 5th grade. In my classroom, students are 25% Filipino, 38% Hispanic, 15% White, 9% African American, 7% Asian Indian, 3% Chinese, and 3% Vietnamese. 34% of all 26 students are considered English Language Learners (ELL) and receive designated English Language Development (ELD) instruction for 30 minutes every day. There are 2 students receiving speech only special education support and 2 other students are receiving other special education support. 19% of the my students are considered on grade level or higher for reading skills. 34% of my students are approaching the end of the year reading standards at the beginning of the year and 57% of students are below grade level for reading. While the focus of this project is on narrative writing, it is important to take into consideration the reading level of these students. The reading level will help understand progression and writing scores of students who might perform lower in the writing assessments.

Logo Rationale
When it came time to designing my logo, I wanted an icon that would combine hand writing with technology. In order to do that I knew I needed an image of a computer and an image of a pencil. How to seamlessly put it all together was the challenge.
The pencil and binder paper resemble the skills of physically writing. While the computer and typed E represent writing with technology. I have the pencil "writing" the typed E to represent that both types of writing are important and need to go together for students to be successful in the 21st century. Because I am focusing on writing at the elementary level, E represents elementary.
