Were you the kid who was afraid to raise your hand? Or maybe you're an educator who has noticed that your English Learners tend to shy away from participating in class. Throughout my years of teaching, I've encountered many English language learners who were hesitant to share their voices in the classroom. It became a recurring pattern that I was determined to change. I knew there had to be a solution, a way to empower my students and make them feel comfortable participating. That's when it hit me: involving families could be the key to encouraging their engagement. Join me as we embark on a captivating exploration of family engagement and its profound impact on English language learners (ELs). In this groundbreaking study, I delve into the implementation of family/student workshops, crafted by a passionate teacher-researcher (me)! These workshops act as catalysts, sparking a cooperative spirit between teachers and families, while fostering a nurturing and supportive learning environment. Through student & parent surveys, classroom observations, and student performance data, my aim is to showcase the promising outcomes of these workshops.
