My research explores the impact of family/student workshops on increasing the participation of English language learners (ELLs) in the classroom. The study uses a mixed-methods approach to collect both quantitative and qualitative data, including pre- and post-workshop surveys and observational data sheets. The workshops focus on teaching parents meaningful student discourse protocols, giving at-home tasks to families, and previewing in-class content in parent workshops. The study found that the workshops were effective in increasing student participation and provides valuable insights for educators seeking to improve the academic outcomes of ELLs.
