Third grade students are usually around 8 or 9 years-old. By the time they reach third grade they have already learned so much, but still get frustrated or anxious when faced with life's challenges. Especially a challenge like taking the CAASPP test for the first time. I wanted to empower my students with strategies that would assist them to take control of their emotions.
The goal of this was to reduce students' testing anxiety through taking deep breaths before and during a test. However, students also reported that they found deep breaths useful to calm down during disagreements with peers or siblings and when faced with a challenging assignment.
