Support and Next StepsConclusions
There is still much work to be done in the area of socio-emotional learning in the classroom. Title I schools are far more at risk of students having high ACEs scores. I was impressed that from the first round to the third round of action research that 9 students were able to reduce their test anxiety levels to the low/normal range. While students this year were able to increase their awareness of when they need to calm down there will be a new group of students to engage next year. I plan on using the Westside Test Anxiety Scale in the branching Google Form to monitor students' anxiety levels. However, I would like students to take ownership of monitoring their test and set personal goals for themselves. Students can share and celebrate with one another when they have lowered their anxiety levels and reached new goals. Next Steps Beginning in August 2020 I will be teaching at Pennycook Elementary in Vallejo, Ca. This school uses a student first strategy called the Leader in Me. These 7 leadership attributes aid students in taking control of their futures. Socio-emotional learning will pair nicely together. In addition to sharing my research, I would like to continue my education in this area by becoming a yoga teacher for students. Breathe for Change offers a 200 hour yoga teacher training especially for educators. This mind-body balance is critical in the area of socio-emotional learning. Thank you! |
