Standards and Competencies:

During this capstone project I referred to the 21st Century Standards Framework which align with the Common Core Standards in order for students to  achieve college and career readiness.  Communication and collaboration go hand in hand because one cannot exist without the other.  Students need to communicate in order to collaborate.  

The following standards were obtained from the P21 21st Century Skills Framework: 
COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATIONCommunicate Clearly

• Articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written and nonverbal communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts
• Listen effectively to decipher meaning, including knowledge, values, attitudes and intentions
• Use communication for a range of purposes (e.g. to inform, instruct, motivate and persuade)
• Utilize multiple media and technologies, and know how to judge their effectiveness a priori as well as assess their impact
• Communicate effectively in diverse environments (including multi-lingual)

Collaborate with Others

• Demonstrate ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse teams
• Exercise flexibility and willingness to be helpful in making necessary compromises to accomplish a common goal
• Assume shared responsibility for collaborative work, and value the individual contributions made by each team member

Common Core standards used during my Capstone Project: ELA and ELD CCSS
SL.2.1  Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
L 2.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
L 2.1 f, Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy).
RF.2.4  Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
RF.2.4.a  Read on-level text with purpose and understanding.
SL.2.1.a  Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
RL.2.5  Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.
RL.2.7  Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
ELD Standards:
ELD.PI.2.1.Br  Exchanging information and ideas. Contribute to class, group, and partner discussions, including sustained dialogue, by listening attentively, following turn‐taking rules, asking relevant questions, affirming others, adding pertinent information, building on responses, and providing useful feedback.
ELD.PI.2.1.Ex  Exchanging information and ideas. Contribute to class, group, and partner discussions, including sustained dialogue, by listening attentively, following turn‐taking rules, asking relevant questions, affirming others, and adding relevant information
