What is TPACK? Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework for best practices teaching that makes the content more accessible to students.
Ahhhh! Another educational acronym? What is this and why should I care? This quick video above clearly shows why all teachers need to have an understanding of this important concept.
Teachers know that the more tools they have in their toolbox, the more students they will be able to reach. The scary part for some of us is the wide range of technological tools that are available today. It can be intimidating and time consuming to know which tools best help our students learn. Not all tech tools are created equally as we know. This is where the SAMR model can be useful.
What is SAMR?
It can be tempting to use a technological tool with students because they think it's fun. Shiny bells and whistles may make learning more engaging and enhance instruction, but ideally they should elevate learning to the next level.
This staircase model is a useful reflection tool to think about where you currently are in your technology use in the classroom. Even making incremental changes will directly benefit your students. For me, making the jump from Augmentation to Modification has been the most challenging. I know I still have plenty of room for improvement, but this model provides me with inspiration of how I can truly transform learning experiences in my classroom.
"It's not the tech, it's how you use it". The video below provides an easy to understand overview of the SAMR Model.
