To support schools in effectively implementing AI for creating lessons within the UDL framework, the California Digital Learning Integration and Standards Guidance offers strategies to enhance educator and system capabilities. This guidance draws on foundational, research-based practices in digital learning, such as fostering personal interaction, building classroom communities, fostering collaboration, integrating authentic assessment, designing active learning activities, and promoting student-centered opportunities to foster agency.
Aligned with Senate Bill 98 (SB 98, 2019-2020), the guidance addresses the development of a preliminary distance learning curriculum and instructional guidelines for mathematics, English language arts, and English language development. This includes frameworks for meeting essential standards and other aspects of distance learning. Additionally, recommendations for effective technology use are structured around two nationally recognized standards: the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Educators and the National Standards for Quality Online Teaching. The development of these recommendations also considers feedback from the California Distance Learning Advisory Committee, parents/caregivers, and students to inform educators' strategies effectively.
