How can we use technology to formatively assess student learning?
Throughout my journey in the Innovative Learning program, I have battled with how to incorporate technology effectively into my curriculum. There are endless tools that can be used in numerous ways, however during my investigation and personal trial and error in my own classroom, I found a renewed interest in formative assessments and how technology can be used to check for understanding.

Design ProcessThroughout the research process and implementation of new technology in the classroom, it became evident that integrating technology alone was not enough; it needed to truly support the student learning process.
"According to cognitive models, learning is an active process during which learners construct new knowledge by integrating data from the environment with existing knowledge in long-term memory. Instructional methods that support this process mediate learning, while methods that disrupt the process are barriers to learning."- Ruth Clark (Clark, 2002). More... |
Support and Next StepsThe ability to further my education about technology, innovative learning and overall good teaching practices was made possible by many people. NapaLearns generously assisted in financial aid, and without that I most likely would have never joined this program. I was encouraged and supported by my administration and colleagues in the St. Helena Unified Schools District, as well as my own personal family and friends.
