Being an Alternative High School (serving 12 - 21 year olds) students who came to us did so for a reason. Reasons for placement into an alt ed environment vary but the majority of students come to us with deficient foundational skills in reading, writing and mathematics. School might not have been the most empowering entity in their lives and for many, this is their last chance to work towards a high school diploma.

I am fortunate enough to work under an inspiring leader and staff that go above and beyond to make sure we are practicing equity and making the learning environment relevant and engaging while focusing on the whole individual not just a set of standards.

What had worked for me at a traditionally modeled school fell short in the alt ed setting. I knew I could be better, be more equitable and push my pedagogy in way to meet each student where they were at. These thoughts manefested itself into a document called "Challenges and Calls to Action".
