Instructional Materials & How-Tos

Here are some how-to videos of web tools that you can use to enhance your language learning classroom. These following five tools have transformed my Spanish class in how I plan and teach my lessons, and how my students interact with the content.

Quizlet

Quizlet is a study tool where you can create digital flashcards that can be manipulated to test and games in order to learn the content. With learning a new language comes a lot of new vocabulary and at times it can be overwhelming and boring. However, Quizlet makes it fun and effective learning tool.

Explain Everything

Explain Everything is an interactive screencasting whiteboard where you can write, animate, speak, and record any content of your choosing. This digital whiteboard has supported me creating instructional videos to support low level students and the flipped model. I have created videos teaching grammar concepts in order to save instructional time, review for students, and have more one-to-one interactions while students engage in the videos.

Vocaroo

Vocaroo is a free voice recording service that records voice messages and converts your audio that you are recording into a link or QR code. Vacaroo can be a support when developing oral language because students can record themselves and save their link into a google form or spreadsheet where you can have access and review their recording. I love using this tool for the reason that I can listen and provide feedback to students. You can also save their links and compare and share their progress.

Zaption

Zaption turns online videos into interactive learning experiences, making lessons engaging and deepen understanding. With Zaption you can add questions, text, and images into online videos. For my Spanish class, I focused a lot on the interpretive mode of communication, and this tool allowed my students to interact answering questions while watching the video in Spanish and get their results to measure their level of understanding.

Below you will see a Zaption example that I created for a Spanish Speakers class.

Screencastify

Screencastify is a video screen capture software for google chrome. It allows you to create tutorial, lectures, etc. This was a great tool for me because I was able to record tutorials for my students and parents in how to access my online resources, agendas, and grades. There are a lot of possibilities in how you can use this tool for your classroom to support families and students.
