Who were my learners? And what were their needs?Seems easy enough...
When I first started thinking about what the needs of my students were, it sure seemed like an easy question. I soon learned how complex it really is when you break it down. I included my first attempt at really breaking down what an "average" kids looked like, and eventually it helped me focus on some of the needs that my students had, and some steps that I could take to help them with their learning. What is the SITE model and how does it help teachers?
The SITE model takes a very specific look at what a learner's needs are. It looks to address everything from what a learner's interests are, to the challenges they might face, to the role that their background plays in how they see the world. We can't really think of students in isolation.This model brought into focus factors that I hadn't thought about when designing instruction for my kids. This video covers what I found in my first round of research. Feedback can be effective when done in very specific ways and can help students with their learning. My Logo and a small change.
When I first created my logo, I was relatively happy with it. I knew that it needed some work to it, but knew that it was a good start. This is the version that I ended up using for my research. I originally had a phone in place of the computer and thought bubbles at the bottom. After getting some feedback, I decided to use the computer because it better represented the "digital platform" that my kids use in class. I also moved the bubbles to bring more focus on the feedback process itself. Hopefully it does a good job of conveying my message to you as well.
