Standards and Competencies

Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy are designed to prepare all students for success in a 21st century world by requiring students to think critically and creatively, solve problems, and use their analytical skills. The standards also lay out a vision of what it means to be a literate person who is prepared for success in the 21st century. Students who meet the standards demonstrate independence by comprehending and evaluating complex texts with their peers, articulating their own ideas, and understanding how to seek the knowledge needed to complete their work. With the mastery of these standards students are able to stay engaged and open-minded while comprehending and critiquing their peers claims and assumptions. The Common Core standards allow students to employ technology thoughtfully to enhance their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language use.

TPACK

ISTE

TPACK is a technology integration framework that identifies three types of knowledge instructors need to combine for successful edtech integration—technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge. The point of TPACK is to understand how to use technology to teach concepts in a way that enhances student learning experiences.

The ISTE Standards are a framework for students and educators to help rethink education to create innovative learning environments. The standards help educators prepare classrooms for digital age learning.
