Salvador Arts Integration School connects with the Napa Community
Salvador Elementary embraces community partnerships that enhance the school. Salvador is aware of the community needs and strives to support programs throughout Napa.
HISTORY OF SALVADOR & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
Salvador Elementary is an Arts Integration School that began implementation in 2009 on a “shoe string” budget. Through community grants with “On the Move” and the” Napa Arts Council,” the school began providing low income minority children with an opportunity to explore the arts. In 2010, the school was awarded a Federal Magnet Grant. The funding for the grant provided accelerated implementation. Increased community partnerships were formed. Napa Valley Arts Council provided grant support for the world-renowned performing arts group, “Magical Moonshine.” This group has worked with students on performing arts projects which were integrated with teachers’ inquiry-based units.
PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT PARENTS & CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP
Queen of the Valley supports Parent University at Salvador. Parents of students are given opportunities to take classes that enhance their learning and support the parent school partnership. Examples of courses include literacy instruction, technology lessons, healthy cooking and many more. As parents participate in classes held on campus they are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer and become more involved in their children’s education.
HIGH PROFILE PARTNERSHIP
A recent partnership was formed with The Performing Arts Center in Yountville. A group of highly educated musicians are supporting the arts education of the students at Salvador. They are involved in an internship and mentor programs that is modeled after a program developed by Carnegie Hall. These Fellows collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate music into the units of inquiry.
SALVADOR GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
The teachers and administrator support community programs including, “Girls on the Run,” “Boy Scouts of America,” “The Napa Youth Symphony,” "The Boys & Girls Club" and many more. The school welcomes community groups as evidenced by rooms reserved in the evening to support non-profit groups in Napa.
