21st Century Learning and Workforce Readiness

There are 12 skills considered 21st Century Skills.  The focus in education is primary the Learning Skills, also called the 4 C's.  The 4 C's  are: creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking.  Some educational frameworks expand this to the 6 C's which add character and citizenship the for four already mentioned.  By using these C's the hope is that students will be ready for jobs that don't even exist yet.  Our current world is moving so fast that new jobs are created every day.  Therefore, it is less about current jobs and more about supporting our students to learn skills that will help them to adapt and thrive in a constantly changing world.

In addition to the 4 C's, the Literacy and Life Skills shown on the right are important to help students achieve success in life beyond school. Applied Educational Systems is a website that gives detailed explanations of all twelve of the 21st century skills shown here.
