About the Author
I have always known that I’ve wanted to become a teacher. I can remember some of my teachers from early elementary grades, and absolutely loving them and their connections they were able to make with me. Throughout Middle and High school, I continued to have teachers who not only taught the subject matter, but who also made sure to foster relationships with their students. Since I had such positive experiences in my schooling, my mind was set to become a teacher.
In my classroom, I know that at the end of the school year my students need to be at a specific level for Math and Language Arts. They also need to have an understanding of Science, and Social Studies. I try to find ways to incorporate different activities to keep my students interested. The use of technology has been a great way to change up my classroom environment. I use Prodigy for Math concepts, and practice. My students love listening to the Podcast, 6 minutes. I try to have students type stories, as well perform research. I have students present projects as well. I really try to bring a fair combination of learning tools to my students.

Reflections on my Journey
As a teacher, I do have a great schedule which allows me to be an involved mom to my three children. I’ve learned that finding a balance between my professional and personal life is key to being present for both. Keeping this in mind I knew that I needed to take classes to bring my 16 year old credential up to date. I also wanted to place myself in a higher level of seniority within the district. Increasing my salary is also a nice addition. I knew that I needed to learn about new techniques, technology and thoughts about current teaching practices. The Innovative Learning program was the perfect fit for both my personal and professional life. I felt that I would be able to juggle both sides of my life, and finish within a year with my Master’s degree.
Lasting Learning from the Innovative Learning program
I have learned so much from being a part of Cohort 18. Each professor I've had the opportunity to learn from has been so supportive, flexible and patient. I could not have planned for a better time than right now to be enrolled in this program. Due to COVID-19 we had to switch to an online teaching platform. I felt so at ease due largely to all the new technology tools that were presented and explained to our Cohort. I definitely had my moments of being in my own "Learning Pit", but with support I did work my way out!
Not only did I have great Professors, but the group of teachers who were part of Cohort 18 were just as wonderful. I have made new friendships and professional connections that I would not have made if not for this program. I absolutely learned from my professors, but I learned equally from my other teacher "students". We had great conversations discussing all the different learning tools, strategies, and well-known people in the education field. I am so thankful for being a part of this program.
