About the Author

When I was young it never crossed my mind of being an educator. I was always good in math and I was very social. Based on these ideas, I imagined myself after high school going to college and become a powerful businessman, wearing a power suit, wearing a power tie, having power lunches, and making million dollar decisions during power meetings. However, my life didn't turn out that way and I found my passion was in teaching. I was inspired by my old high school history teacher who opened my eyes to something bigger than me and my wants. He helped me realize that a person who teaches can be as powerful and even more influential than a person wearing a thousand dollar suit. With this in mind, I found my calling in serving others by teaching and making this world a better place by teaching our students to be prepared for the 21st century. I have been teaching for over 17 years and I can not imagine myself doing anything else. I love being a teacher. I love being with students. I love being in the trenches in education. I love my coworkers. I love being a coach. Most of all, I love teaching the next future leaders of this great world.
When I joined the Innovative Program and started learning how to use more technology within the classroom with more purpose in how I teach, it reinvigorated me in teaching my students. By also joining the program, it reinforced the idea I try to teach my seniors before they graduate high school. The idea that it will take a village to be heard and not one person alone. Just like in our society, strength is in numbers and not alone. "The needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few or the one," said by Spock. If I want to make everlasting change with my students I must also teach others like me, teachers like me, and innovators like me to influence our students to be successful in the 21st century.
