Support and Next Steps

Throughout this process, my Touro educators and my cohort classmates brought numerous amounts of new technologies, apps, computer programs and social media for educators websites to my attention.  It was a whirlwind of a year, with just surface level exposure to many tools.  Now that my year of Touro is coming to an end, it's time to reflect on all of my new learnings, and decide what I want to explore deeper.  Desmos and Kahoot! are two apps that I really want to explore deeper.  I have used both of these on a regular basis and found that they are both very engaging for my students.  The next step for me with Kahoot! is twofold:  I want to start having my kids develop Kahoot! quizzes to administer to my classes (which I've already started)  and I also want to start holding Kahoot! scores accountable towards my students' grades.  Like any new technology with students, the excitement wears off after a little bit of use, but Kahoot! has developed a new way to record kids scores, so they have to take the quizzes seriously, instead of just guessing to be the first one done, or not logging onto the app at all.

For me, this journey started out simply as a way to get more professional development units.  As I was researching, I had a couple conversations with teachers that went through the Touro program and they gave me positive feedback.  Near the same time, I received an email from NapaLearns that they would fund 50% of the program, and when I learned that it was Innovative Technology, and how to get more impactful technology infused in my classroom, I was completely sold.  Don't get me wrong...being a professional, raising a family, and going back to school has been a major life altering commitment, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  And I would like to take this opportunity to thank Touro University for their support and flexibility during this year, and NapaLearns for funding half of my Master's Degree.  I can promise that I will put your investment to work in helping benefit our NVUSD students.
