How Does Coaching Teachers Help Students During COVID? In 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic in full force, schools across the United States were forced to teach virtually. Many teachers were challenged with using the existing curriculum and transforming it to create lessons that could be delivered virtually and which would keep students engaged while progressing with their learning, despite having to learn at home instead of in their physical school buildings. Communities across the United States began to realize that education was going to be greatly impacted by the pandemic.
During this unprecedented time, educators had rapid and steep learning curves to address technology needs that were not typically in the forefront of their minds prior to the closing of schools due to the pandemic. Districts rushed to provide devices for students’ homes, while also starting teacher trainings on new programs or platforms needed for online teaching. The development of pandemic online schooling highlighted the value and need for 21st century learning. |

Motiviation & Rationale My passion this year has been to teach students to be more autonomous in their learning. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full force, and changing everything we do, this was more important to me than ever. To go on, I needed to make sure I was prepared for that journey.
As a teacher, I have always relied on the internet, social media, and a few trusted colleagues to teach me the ways of technology. This year, I have been fortunate enough to be a part time magnet coach for Art & Engineering at our LEAD Magnet school. In doing so, I am seeing the other side of learning technology--teaching it... to... colleagues. |
