21st Century Learning and Workforce Readiness

What is 21st century learning?  The Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) has outlined the four most important skills that our students should learn:  critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.  These are known as the 4 C's.

How does an in-class flip help build these skills?   A strong academic foundation goes hand in hand with the 4 C's.  Academic knowledge develops critical thinking and opportunities for analysis.  Academic knowledge gives students the vocabulary and language of communication.  Academic competence allows for production collaboration.  And a foundation of academic excellence allows for meaningful creativity.  

With a strong academic foundation, students are better prepared to develop the 4 C's and to meet 21st century workforce needs.

An Educator's Guide to the 4 C's

The National Education Association (NEA) has published Preparing 21st Century Students for a Global Society:
An Educator’s Guide to the “Four Cs” .  This guide helps teachers understand the skills and implement them in a hands-on way in their classrooms.
