21st Century Learning and Workforce Readiness

The need for 21st Century skills arises from the mind-boggling fact that over half of the jobs students will take on after graduation, haven't even been invented yet.  Therefore, it is essential that students know how to work with others and navigate a professional world that has yet to take shape. 

The Partnership for 21st Century Learning hosts a variety of resources for teachers who want to better understand 21st Century skills, research, and related professional development.  Napa Valley Unified School District strives for these learning goals as well.  Along with Common Core Standards, NVUSD aims to teach the 6 C's: collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, character, and citizenship.

The need for resilient, creative thinking beyond core subjects is paramount.  Because his audience is wider than only educators, Eddie Obeng doesn't necessarily mention learning goals and outcomes.  Anyone familiar, however, with 21st Century learning will recognize familiar themes in his renowned TED talk. His message is one that supports the need for 21st Century learning and thinking.
