TPACK
I loved getting familiar with the TPACK model recently. I do have to admit, at first, I was overwhelmed and confused by the concept and terms. So, when I am in doubt, I turn to Google. With a quick Google video search, I stumbled upon the following video. I loved the visuals and the way is slowly broke down this HUGE idea into meaningful chunks. Take a look:
My favorite quote from the above video is "We need to break down the classroom walls and abolish teacher autonomy through increased communication and sharing technologies." To me, I understand this as classrooms becoming more student centered, and less teacher centered.
I also appreciate the image to the left that represents TPACK. I like that it is not only a great visual representation of such a large concept, but it also specifically states what might be going wrong in the classroom if you fall into a certain section. For example, if you have engaging lessons that use technology but tend to go off topic, that means you are lacking the content knowledge area of TPACK. |
As I reflected on my guiding question, I knew that I must consider not only the TPACK standards, but also my school site. The elementary school that I work at encourages the use of technology, although that is not matched in our Mission Statement. From there, I turned to the SAMR model to help my think through my focus for the program. I knew that I was really hoping to improve the "T" portion of TPACK, and this image I found really came in handy (relating anything to coffee helps me to understand it better)!
