Below, you will find the complete unit I made for my students as a part of my second round of research. As written it will take three weeks to complete, although my class ended up needing four weeks to finish all of the end products. The materials students will need are one-to-one devices and headphones to watch different informational videos as well as supplies to make their end products. I found this unit to be very effective and engaging for my students. I hope it can be equally as useful to you in your classroom!

The Gold Rush - Downloadable Unit This is the introduction page which outlines the entire project. At the bottom of the page are links to each week's goal page. Each weekly goal page has links to each day's individual hyperdocs which describe the daily goal and provide links to that day's available resources. There are also daily Google Forms which students can use to inform and focus their research. I recommend sending only this document to your students via Google Classroom. They can access any page they need to from this document and it keeps their Google accounts from getting cluttered. You can view the rest of the pages included in the unit below.
* You will need to request access from me to access the Google Forms. I will try to give you access as quickly as possible. If you would like to contact me directly there is a contact form on the About The Author page. Week 1

Quick PSA For Teachers
Remember that using standards from different subject areas and weaving them together in your lessons helps to create a more authentic learning experience for you students. Nothing in the world occurs in isolation so in order to truly prepare our students to be critical thinkers in the world we, as teachers, must not shy away from the messy entanglements of topics which really make learning more interesting and fun. |
