Dan Parker:
Athletics has always dominated most of my life. Playing sports gave me the outlet most people need to stay sane. Shortly after realizing that my playing days were numbered, the idea of coaching was presented. I was asked to coach baseball right away at the professional level, but I decided that coaching kids and having a family was my future. My wife Michelle and I have built a beautiful family in Napa with two children, Juliette and Jagger. After 14 years of coaching baseball at all levels, I was offered the coaching job at Napa Valley College. One thing was holding me back, and that was going back to school. Not only did I need to complete my B.A., but in order to be full time at a Community College, I needed to complete a Masters Degree. Being involved in the Napa community for over 13 years, I had heard teachers talk about the support from Napa Learns and the relationship with Touro University. One thing led to another and Touro put together a hybrid program to fulfill my professional needs. I am very grateful that Touro U has helped me get to this point and I look forward to more opportunities in the future to better my education and career.
My priorities in life have always been my family and my passion for excellence in athletics. Beginning with Playing in the Little League World Series and AYSO Soccer to a career as a professional baseball player and College Baseball Coach. I hold a BA in General Studies from Fort Hays State University and am currently working on a Master Degree in Innovative Learning/Administration.
I’ve always showed a passion in helping high school and college players reach their goals in playing baseball at the highest level. That’s were my interest in creating a College Baseball Recruiting template/website. This will help players reach out to coaches with the correct information in the future.

Philosophy:
The rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct.
Baseball can be a
cruel game, testing ones desire and passion to win. Sometimes, the want to win can be overwhelming. As a coach, the strength and principals behind a coaches philosophy plays a big roll in succeed. A strong philosophy within a program will not only help a coach keep order, but will also help the players toe a tight line. As a college coach, my philosophy towards the players is to treat each player with respect, give them the opportunity they derisive and be straight forward about their talent and future in the game. As a professional, my philosophy is to work hard, be a honorable person, and to handle each situation individually and patiently.

Lasting Learning from the Innovative Learning program:
Being a long time athlete of team sports, and former professional baseball player, on field activity has always come easy to me. Being a long time teammate has made building relationships easy as well. The struggles in my career has and will be keeping myself educated with new ways of teaching the game. Relaying quality information to players in a way that suits them best. I remember a coach of mine in a professional baseball telling me that baseball was a sport for dinosaurs, meaning rules, traditions and coaching hasn't changed for years. I pride myself on teaching my players how to become the best version of themselves possible, not only as baseball players, but as students, friends, and human beings. In order to do that, I must prepare myself with the best tools to do so. Kids are growing fast, and are creating new way to do everything and anything. This program has helped me develop the tools to be able to communicate not only as a group, but to each player individually.
Below is the website creation for this Masters program.

SITE Model Description:
This Instructional Design Model Team Presentation was the project we created for the SITE model description Initial Analysis Document Assignment. This presentation focuses on the Pebble in a Pond Instructional Thinking Model. This presentation puts the concept into an easy to understand form. It explains what it is and how it has expanded. TPACK Reflection:
This has been a journey. It started out with me knowing that I want to find out more about what college coaches want when recruiting so that I can best serve my players at the junior college. What came from the interest, I never expected. I learned about the importance of video and then explored how to create better videos for coaches. From there I thought about how to share this video with coaches that are busy and don't put a lot of time or trust into coaches that are contacting them. This is how the capstone was created. The capstone made me create something useful that I can use to help my players move on. Starting with learning how to blog on Weebly, to exploring education and technology today, to designing a logo and needing to follow through on this creation. Now I have an easy to copy website that I can share with any player and all they have to do is fill in the template with the information requested in each page, and share the link with me and off it goes to the head coach at a four year college. It's really exciting to have created something that I can use and to show the growth I have made with technology myself like for example starting to use twitter to share game stats and playing locations and times with the community. |
