Lesson Summary:
In this lesson students learned about their academic footprint and how greatly it can affect them as athletes in college. Students learned about how realistic these situations are and what to do differently to prevent them and the consequences that will change their lives forever. Student are often unaware of how they use social media and texting and that it can ruin their career. They need to know why and how they can make better choices for themselves and their teammates. The Lesson: Title: Protect Your Image Class Name: Baseball 101 Grade Level: College Time: 50 Minutes Topic: Digital communication and the digital footprint Common Sense Media: Video as seen above Materials: Teacher will need online access to Common Sense Media video online Teacher will need a large screen to show the video Purpose Statement: Students will watch a video and learn the importance of a digital footprint so that they can apply it to their lives and how they use online resources. Objectives: Students will become aware of the digital footprint and how it pertains to them as well as how it can hurt them and what choices they can make to protect themselves and others. Hook Everything you do once you walk on campus whether it's language, body language, the way you drive, the clothes you wear, can dictate whether or not you play this game or not in the future. David Ablauf, Michigan’s associate athletic director said, “we live, almost, in a transparent world today. Every person that you walk by has the potential to be a reporter...Social media habits, social media in general, really can help make or break getting you a job”. That is what he said to his team and I am saying it to you. That is how important this concept is. Lesson Plan:
Assessment: Students work in teams to create their own presentation on how digital footprints effect athletes in today’s world. Each player will be given a social media outlet as their focus. Twitter, facebook, instagram, snapchat, etc. |
