Next Steps and SupportThe capstone project is the just start of a long journey to bring the tools of Social Emotional Learning into the classroom. As an education professional, I hope to promote this by performing trainings in Restorative Practices, Trauma-awareness, and Mindfulness-based SEL instruction. SEL has the tools to elevate our students to meet the demands of the 21st Century workforce. Our hopes should shift to include developing proactive compassionate adults along with academic success.
I would like to thank the excellent faculty at Touro University California, Graduate School of Education; from my first day, I felt supported and connected to the TUC community. I'm thankful that the Innovative Learning M.Ed. was offered, as it fulfilled my goals to better understand the achievement gap, technology use, and an aspect of systems and visual design that will be valued in the workplace.
I no longer teach in the classroom, but the content covered and confidence in design developed have been incredibly motivating to transform education on so many levels. Other doors have open to support education within the nonprofit realm. Having taught 7 years, and directed a nonprofit for 7 years, this M.Ed. sets me up to be a change-maker; for that I'm grateful. I don't plan to continue the action research completed at TUC, but I will continue to be an advocate, trainer, and mentor teacher to bring about change to our education system.
