Why use PBL in the Classroom? What are the Benefits?

Creating a PBL project is, in of it self, a project. Just as students use the 4 C's of learning in their projects (creativity, communication, critical thinking, collaboration), teachers use those same skills in developing a project from scratch. Sure making a PowerPoint and giving a lecture is easier (for the teacher as well as the student), but completing a project has such immense satisfaction with everyone involved. You'd be surprised how one little classroom project could potentially affect a huge amount of people across the country or throughout the world. I don't know about your PowerPoints, but mine aren't that good!

Inspiration for PBL teaching

I saw a student send this text to her friend while in my class. Needless to say, I knew I needed to make a change and fast. After asking students what they wanted from a teacher, I found out that working on projects in groups and using technology were the two main areas they felt would help drive home the lesson. This section describes that journey.
