I was inspired to create this action research project to improve the writing experience in my first-grade classroom. Our disrupted schedule made it challenging to teach writing consistently, especially after lunch recess when the students were overstimulated and struggled to focus. The traditional teacher-centered approach wasn't engaging them effectively, and I felt frustrated with the lack of individual support and follow-up on their writing goals. I discovered blended station rotations while exploring student-centered approaches in the book "Shift to Student Led" by Katie Novak and Catlin R. Tucker. I like how blended station rotations align with student agency, collaboration, and choice. Blended station rotations sparked my interest in its potential to create a more enjoyable and effective writing environment. So, I set off to implement the rotations and investigate their impact on student engagement, writing skills, and overall classroom dynamics.
