I was inspired to create this action research project to improve the writing experience in my first-grade classroom. We had a heavily impacted schedule with frequent interruptions, making it hard to teach writing daily. When I could plan for a writing lesson, it often took place after lunch. The students would come in from lunch recess overstimulated and irritable. It took a lot of effort to try to focus them on the whole class writing activity and subsequent quiet writing time. The traditional teacher-centered approach wasn't working for me. It was stressful and, honestly, not fun. I felt like a nag! I also struggled to find time for individual conferences and follow up on goal setting. I wanted to find a better way to engage my students. That's when I discovered blended writing station rotations. I thought it could be the solution to address these challenges and make writing more exciting for everyone. So, I decided to try it and see how it would impact student engagement, writing skills, and the overall classroom atmosphere.
