People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing. -Dale Carnegie
Background to ResearchThis action-research project focused on creating play-based learning experiences that would keep students engaged, increase communication with peers, and develop language complexity while learning virtually or in-person. The educational research had a deficit in examining and comparing communication amongst primary students playing and learning in virtual and in-person settings. Previous research focused on the impact that online education had on young children’s socio-emotional and language development, however prior to 2020, these areas were considered within physical classrooms or teleconferencing health therapy (Singha, 2020). There was limited empirical research around students learning, playing, and communicating while practicing social distancing parameters while learning in-person, such as mask-wearing, physical distancing, and students unable to share learning/play materials with peers (Kim, 2020; Taylor & Boyer, 2020).
