Surveying the Data
As seen on the HOW-TOs page, Google forms provide an efficient and user-friendly interface for students to provide feedback and assess trends. These surveys were the backbone for data collection week after week, action cycle to action cycle. Furthermore, they added another recurring piece to our weekly circles, highlighting self-reflection as an ongoing exercise in developing our reading habits and helping us better understand why we are or are not motivated to read.
To this end, the surveys sought to capture qualitative and quantitative data around how much students were reading, their overall interest or satisfaction around reading that week, and any potential barriers they might have encountered to reading more. In this way, students were given the opportunity to consider their own engagement over the course of the study and how that engagement might be affected by intrinsic or extrinsic factors. More broadly, the surveys sought to highlight these factors as a common experience between students, adding to the overall culture of reading in the room.
