Today’s learners need to be prepared with 21st Century Skills. Children need to know how to Collaborate, Communicate, be Creative and Think Critically. The 4C’s to education are ideas which are integrated in with the kindergarten curriculum at SPHDS. Thinking outside the box is innovation. It is being able to step out of one’s comfort zone and try something new. As a teacher it is important to create a positive, nurturing classroom community where students are encouraged to confidently use their imagination. When a teacher implements and encourages communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity (4C’s) they are asking children to think and to be problem solvers. In order for students to have successful “thinking outside the box” opportunities the teacher needs to assure students that there are no right or wrong answers. By doing so the children will better appreciate the learning process. Teachers can bring real-life experiences to children by planning field trips or bringing the outside world into the classroom. Children need opportunities to dive into their learning and create meaningful experiences.
SPHDS has placed an emphasis on developing 21st century learners and encouraging teachers to make efforts to integrating the 4C’s into the daily learning. Technology has found its place within the classroom setting. Students have access to a variety of tech tools such as Chromebooks, iPads and SmartBoards. SPHDS is headed in the right direction in regards to technology, 4C’s and developing confident 21st Century Learners.
My goals are to create an awareness of technology and a thoughtful use of technology within the school community. My goals for integrating technology into the curriculum is to develop internet safety, internet etiquette and internet awareness for students. I plan to educate students to be well rounded, digital citizens both in school and outside of the school setting. My goal is to provide students with meaningful and purposeful experiences with technology. Teaching children the 4C's in education will promote a sense of confidence and trust in my learners. Technology should serve a real purpose and should be used to enhance the learning experience within the classroom setting and beyond.
