21st Century Learning and Workforce Readiness

It is incredible how far we have come after being thrust into the world of technology post-pandemic. A path that was inevitable well before the pandemic came upon the world. Students sit before a computer/laptop screen for assessments and 'free time' or possibly to take an Accelerated Readers quiz. However, our educational outlook took on a whole new meaning once the pandemic hit. Suddenly, schools and districts tuned in closely to what skills students lacked, how teachers utilized technology, our students' ability to take a task to the next level with understanding and know-how, what real crisis we were in regarding technology knowledge, and the preparation of our students for the 21st Century. 

Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity comprise the 4 C's, a framework for the 21st Century Learning. These learning and innovation skills are also the same components that construct a thriving class of students. 

Suppose we are looking to prepare our students 21st Century learning. In that case, we have to empower students' voices by providing them with tools that will allow them to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape. With technology, classroom teachers should provide standards for a thriving and safe space in class and online. ISTE Standards: Students  are comprised of: Digital Citizenship, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator--transcends to an Empowered Learner.
