The inspiration of my project came from the realization of the lack of technology that was happening at Hillcrest. The absolute crazy part was, that we definitely had the funding and means to get ahead of the game towards technology integration, but no one was quite sure on how to tackle down technology into this community.

There was a need to have a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program, but there wasn't a system which helps the program stay consistent. Hillcrest's reputation is one of the best public schools in Oakland and a proper BYOD program was not in place, just yet.
I felt so lucky to get my first teaching assignment at Hillcrest and I felt compelled to get involved in technology integration right from the get go! I really wanted to help everyone and anyone who was willing and ready to jump into implementing a BYOD program at my school site and into their own in the classrooms. Whether that is just the teacher or students, or even both.
My first job was simply to just teach 4t/5th grade science, I had the space and time to integrate technology into the classroom and into the science curriculum. Along with providing my students a safe place to learn, but a safe place to do research while using a device and go further into the subjects they were interested in while finding science based topics. After a year of how this community works and functions I found that rolling in a BYOD program can be easy with organization and, of course, research.
I didn't know how successful this program would be until year two of the BYOD program. We have been able to celebrate Computer Science Week and promote Hour Of Code event at the school to help boost the amazing activities and achievements our students at Hillcrest can do. I do believe change is hard but once systems are in place and well thought out, then the future really benefits. I believe that the future of Hillcrest's BYOD program continues to bring more innovating thinking minds to the world of education.
