My Process...I wanted to know if students could improve their agency and classroom engagement with the use of digital tools. During the first few weeks of class I taught students how to use different digital tools to help them complete assignments. We taught, retaught and retaught the tools and expectations repeatedly over 18 weeks.
I designed my math classes to be 3 stations, first, a Warm Up that all students would work on. Second, the assignment which would be done in groups depending on the students need and lastly, the digital platform that students were to work on for 15- 20 minutes daily during Asynchronous Time. Both the Warm Up and the assignment were given a 3 week time limit to complete. Not only did this provide ample time for students to complete the work and receive help if needed, it allowed the teaching staff to adjust things that may have not worked very well for the next cycle if needed. I was able to complete 4 cycles where I looked at which students completed assignments, did not complete assignments, completed partial assignments, participated in their group, who asked for help, and who requested their work on paper rather than digitally. |
Tools/ Apps Used...
- Kami: A application that allows its users to write directly on a PDF. This allowed students to write directly on their math assignment instead of copying the problem by hand and then solving.
- IXL: A web-based learning platform used to help students work on missing skills during Asynchronous work time.
- You Tube: I posted how-to videos to my You Tube channel so that students could have access to videos that explain how to do different problems.
- Tic-Tok: This app was the BEST PD I could have asked for. Teachers on the app tested and used different digital tools and classroom resources and then gave a 60 second video on how to use them.
