About the Author
I never thought I would become a teacher when I was growing up. My interest was in math and science when I was in high school. So never in a million years did I ever think I would become a school teacher.
My interest in becoming a teacher started when I did volunteer student tutoring. I attended various colleges and finally graduated with a Liberal Arts degree from Cal Poly Pomona. I eventually received my Multiple Subject Credential while teaching. I then transitioned into Special Education. I have been teaching for 21-1/2 years and 19 Special Education. I have taught Kindergarten through High School. I have had many ups and downs while teaching special education students. It is a very challenging career, but I would not have it any other way.
I have a strong view of Special education and the treatment of students. I want them to succeed in whatever path they choose. I want them to know that I care about each and every one of them. I will never go back to teaching General Education because I feel more appreciated in Special Education. My greatest joy is seeing former students and hearing how they are doing.
Reflections on your Journey
It has been my goal to get my Master's for over 20 years. It has not been an easy journey in the last year, but I am at the finish line, waiting to cross it. It has been hard to go to school and teach during a Pandemic. At the beginning of the program, I was hopeful because I wanted to get some experience with technology and the ability to use it in the classroom. I have learned quite a bit through this program, and I am very happy with my outcome. I have had a great adventure with my Cohort 21, and I enjoyed the rollercoaster ride. I have no regrets and would love to thank this program's wonderful, supportive staff. It was a group effort with the teaching staff and cohort members, and this is an experience I will never forget.
Lasting Learning from the Innovative Learning program
I am grateful that I had the opportunity to learn how to incorporate technology into my classroom and teaching. My knowledge has increased so much since the beginning of this program. I started off with not much confidence in technology, and now I feel I have some tools and skills to add to my repertoire. As we all know, education is constantly changing and evolving, and it never stays stagnant. I found this program to be a wonderful addition to my ever-growing outlook on education.
