Whereas many of the other standards and frameworks revolve around helping students develop their abilities, TPACK (or Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) is especially relevant for helping teachers develop their own abilities in the areas of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge.  Surprisingly, one of the most rewarding aspects of running the virtual worlds project for me was how my own TPAC knowledge evolved as I created, taught, and troubleshooted lessons with the students.

Based on my own experiences, here are a few ways that your TPAC knowledge may be affected through this project.  You may:

Technological Knowledge:
  • Discover new ways to utilize Google Slides to make more interactive and engaging lessons
  • Uncover images, sounds, and other assets that can aid in student comprehension

Pedagogical Knowledge:
  • Identify where different forms of media overlap (including novels, movies, and video games) so that you can use one form of media to complement or supplement learning from another form
  • Use these different forms of media at strategic times to enhance and deepen student learning

Content Knowledge:
  • Translate traditional content, such as analyzing themes and story structure, into new contexts
  • Connect content to student experiences and background knowledge to build new understandings
