Standards & Competencies

          At the right you will find useful links to the standards and competencies that guided my action research project.  Social-Emotional Learning was my big focus, but of course Common Core is infused in all content learning today.  TPACK and 21st Century Skills helped me to plan lessons as a teacher that I know would allow the virtual and in person students to connect via technology as they completed science lessons and projects together.  Without the technology and new ways to communicate with each other in a digital space, the affinity groups would have been very limited. 

SEL- The focus for affinity groups is about creating connections between students to increase that sense of belonging and engagement with their learning.  The SEL competencies linked to the right were a big focus for my research project, especially the competencies listed as "relationship skills".  The CASEL website is a rich resource about SEL and the CASEL 5 competencies.  The video below is a great intro to the 5 competencies.  Invest 5 minutes and get the gist of SEL.
