Common Core Standards

"As principals, school librarians, and business leaders know too well, the reality is that an 18-year-old who does not have the skills for college or career is effectively sentenced to a lifetime of marginal employment and second-class citizenship. School leaders and librarians have embraced the idea that all students should be prepared to pursue postsecondary education 
and/or training."  (Implementing the Common Core: The Role of the School Librarian, 2014)
 
School librarians and their colleagues have learned a hard truth — college eligible does not mean college ready. School leaders, librarians, and teachers are now taking on the role of learner as we learn new ways of teaching with Common Core. The shift to CCSS affects the way students learn and are assessed, the way teachers teach, and the way instructional leaders lead.

School librarians, digital literacy coaches, reading specialists,  and content teachers can teach the research process together but also to target their instruction toward curricular concepts, subject-matter information, data gathering, analysis, synthesis, and the production and sharing of “research papers” in a variety of formats.
