![]() The TPACK Journey
“Technology is a tool that can enhance instruction and improve student learning, but only when it is aligned to content and effective instructional practices.“ (Mishra & Koehler, 2006). Collaborative partnerships between teachers and librarians can bring new opportunities to meaningful integration of technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge. When teachers meet with the teacher librarian they can plan collaboratively, share resources, create effective lessons, and analyze the data through summative evaluations. The work is directed and purposeful. The teacher brings the pedagogical skills to the table in a specific subject area. The teacher librarian brings specialized skills in technology integration and provides a support role for development of the teacher’s knowledge. The chart illustrates how digital literacy, meaning information literacy, media literacy and ICT Literacy (information and communication technologies) play a part in the 4 C''s. The implementation of a learning commons model in schools will help with the process of teacher collaboration. The libraries become the “hubs” of schools. The libraries will bring students, teachers and the library staff together to engage in collaborative teaching, learning, and creating. Open spaces with less confinement, wireless internet, and a flexible schedule will provide teachers and students with access on an as-needed basis, rather than as a fixed scheduled where kids come and check out books on a weekly basis.
